Freedom
Freedom? From what? Freedom from our limited human condition.
We have arrived at this level of consciousness by fulfilling the conditions that are required to be here:
- Acknowledging our higher self
- Belief in a higher power
- Diminishing the ego
- Courage over comfort
- Taking a moral inventory
- Becoming willing to learn
- Staying humble to be able to receive inspiration
- Forgiving ourself and others
So, when we work our way up to this level of being, usually everything is going well for us. We feel in charge of our lives and our future. There is a real freedom that comes from knowing that we really are spiritual beings having a human experience. That we are on the correct path of Jesus’s teachings and getting daily inspiration.
- Now, incredibly, we know that we really are becoming butterflies.
Richard Bach’s Jonathan Livingston Seagull stated:
- He spoke of very simple things - that it is right for a gull to fly, that freedom is the very nature of his being, that whatever stands against that freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form.
Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a powerful metaphor for our lives and the spiritual journey we all face. The message is deeply personal:
- Each person has unlimited potential, but most accept artificial limitations.
- True freedom comes from refusing to let others define what’s possible for you and pursuing your authentic path, even when it’s lonely or misunderstood.
Maybe though you could have arrived here without doing the work required by the system, if so, it’s beginners’ luck. I do think beginners’ luck is real although. I mean, go to Las Vegas and, and if you can, watch someone who is there for the first time. They’re generally full of excitement and anticipation. They’re on their best behavior and looking forward to learning about gaming and having fun:
- Jesus was all about having fun when he could. He never turned down wine in celebration.
They have unknowingly fulfilled most of the attributes of the system. And they generally win that first time.
But when we arrive here after doing the work, it is a much different experience.
- You see, people just do not realize that their level of being attracts all the things which they regard as having nothing to do with themselves.
But the gospel teaches that it is our level of being that attracts all of this and keeps us constantly under its influence. We now know this to be true. That we alone hold the key to our freedom, happiness and understanding.
Romans 8:2 said:
- “Through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Paul emphasizes that believers are no longer slaves to sin (falling short) but have been liberated to live for God.
I interpret this to mean that when we live by our Christ Consciousness (I AM) we are free from the mistakes we made when not knowing the truth and living primarily by our lower selves (ego).
It should be said that sometimes some of the people that we are associated with may have noticed the changes in us, that we don’t respond to life the same as before. Some may like the changes and some not but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that constant connection to God; the inspiration, the feelings. I have become aware that, generally speaking, the people that didn’t care for the new me were the ones where the relationship had a natural ending. I am actually pleased now that they didn’t care for me. I was free to make better relationships.
- You can measure your spiritual growth more by who dislikes you than who likes you.
James Thurber (Writer, humorist (1894-1961)) summed it up saying:
- Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.
